London is damp, cool and dim for much of the year, with a heating season that runs from October to April. Georgian and Victorian houses have sash windows, draughts and radiators, so curtains are lined and interlined, and upholstery meets central heating, rain on coats and the daily life of a family house. Colour reads darker under grey skies, and texture does a lot of the work.
Studios work on townhouses in Belgravia, Mayfair, Notting Hill and Chelsea, on mansion flats and mews houses, on members' clubs, hotels, restaurants and offices. The United Kingdom applies strict fire regulations to upholstery, domestic and contract alike, so a fabric's fire performance is checked as early as its Martindale rating. The trade showrooms at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour keep most collections within a single visit.
Fabric Library, Al Guthmi, Pierre Frey and Ultrafabrics are the four mills at launch. A cutting from a London showroom arrives within days; samples from the Gulf mills travel by courier and take longer. Colour is confirmed on a physical sample in the room, under its real light, before an order.
WEAVRA searches these collections by measured colour, material, wear and use, keeps the fabrics that hold in one selection, and prints an A4 presentation under the WEAVRA name. Specifications come from the mill; the order and the price stay between the studio and the mill.
